Hi there and thanks for looking me up!
I am a highly experienced Adult Psychotherapist and use Emotion Focused Therapy as my primary tool. I believe that our feelings are the emotional compass that guide us to our needs. I help you fully understand how you are feeling and why. Together, we will explore what is needed to change your troubling feelings. We will aim to find more helpful and life-enhancing ways forward. The relationship between a client and their therapist is crucial. This relationship is key to the positive changes that clients seek . I try my best to give you the key information that you need in the very first session. This way, you can make that important decision as to whether or not you wish to work with me. Psychotherapy delves into more deeply rooted issues and uncovers their causes. It doesn’t just address the symptoms. The therapy can be longer term, though you determine this. This makes psychotherapy particularly effective for those seeking to understand underlying patterns and achieve lasting change. I also use counselling for clients who want quicker relief. This is helpful for those needing immediate relief from specific challenges or immediate concerns. This approach focuses more on surface issues and is usually short-term
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also part of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. These memberships ensures you are in safe hands. Being registered with a professional body reassure you that I am a qualified and trustworthy psychotherapist. I respect and adhere to the high standards that both these bodies require. This means I have continuously extended my skills. I have also expanded my knowledge over many years to offer you a quality service. I can offer both counselling and psychotherapy sessions.
I also specialise in counselling for children and teenagers. I am a fully qualified CYP counsellor, having trained with the wonderful Place2Be children’s counselling charity. My training has allowed me to help many children and teens over the years. I have worked through Health Board and Lottery funded counselling services. Now, I work in my own private practice, here in beautiful Carmarthenshire, near Ammanford. I use play, creativity, and talking therapy with all youngsters. I tailor my approach individually to suit their developmental age and difficulties.
I also provide support for parents who are struggling, particularly with challenging behaviour or attachment difficulties.
My practice is sensitive to the needs of all individuals. It offers a warm and safe space for you to explore your story. You will find me kind and easy to talk to. I will support you non-judgementally on your way forward. My service is low cost and effective. I try to aim to help those in my community who most need my help. There is no need to wait any longer – get in touch.

Can counselling help?

Yes, significantly, and I have seen this time and time again. In our first meeting, we get to know each other a little so that you can decide if we are a good match. If you agree, then together we identify what you want me to help you with, and we use that to guide our work together in the weeks to come, so that you are able to enjoy your life more without the burden of the troubling feelings and thoughts you were experiencing.

“Aileen is kind, has a good listening ear, is supportive and helpful. I am no longer struggling with anxiety and have coping skills to deal with things. I feel content in my life” (Carole 28 years)
“She is so much more confident. We have seen a big difference and she is going to school every day now for the whole day.” (parent of 6year old)
“ How I feel today from our first session is hard to describe. I just didn’t want to speak to anybody about what had happened. You showed me that there is light at the end of the tunnel and I am grateful. You helped me through the darkest time in my life and I can’t thank you enough. ( Male 57 Bereaved)

Experience
Over the years I have gained a significant amount of experience in alleviating distress, through my individual work in private practice, with all ages. I have also counselled hundreds of patients in GP surgeries within the NHS, through the successful counselling company ‘Family and Therapy’ CIC that I set up with my colleague, that I have now retired from. I now focus on my own private practice in my home county of Carmarthenshire.
I have a proven record of delivering effective help fairly quickly, so that clients of all ages can find an acceptable resolution to those issues or problems that are causing distress, including emotional dysregulation, anxiety with children, and low self-esteem, OCD, anger management and loneliness.
I am also a parent of three children, all now grown up, and have experienced fully both the joys and difficulties of parenting, which have led me to develop my skills also in helping parents who are struggling.
